The Archwood Group, which consists of stairparts and mouldings manufacturer Richard Burbidge, flooring manufacturer Atkinson & Kirby and Masons Timber Products, is proud to introduce its new leadership team, helping to ensure a bright future for its merchant partners. The message is simple: we’ve listened and we’re ready to deliver.
The team in place to execute the new merchant focused strategy is headed up by Tony Miles, the company's Chief Executive, Phil Lomas, Operations Director, Damian Bracken Commercial Director, Josh Burbidge, Business Development Director and Andy Simms, Financial Director.
With a combined experience of over 75 years in the timber industry, the team is well placed to deliver the next stage of growth for the Archwood Group, enabling it to become ‘the UK’s premier supplier of sustainable timber components’.
Chief Executive, Tony Miles joined the Archwood Group in February 2017. A well-known figure in the UK timber industry, Tony has worked in the trade for his entire career, in that time he has supported the trade through many external bodies. He currently holds the title of Director of the Confederation of Timber Industries.
Tony has a well-earned reputation for excellent customer service, driven by his strong customer engagement, product knowledge and employee development. He is now focused on building the right team to deliver the next stage of growth for the Archwood Group.
Phil Lomas, heading up operations brings with him many years’ experience in manufacturing excellence, and has for the last 12 years been working in timber manufacturing and distribution. His focus will be on maintaining the high quality products the Archwood Group is famous for, backed up by a reliable ultra-competitive service model.
Damian Bracken, Commercial Director brings over 16 years’ experience in the timber industry in sales and supply chain management. Damian’s expertise has been in building sales and product teams which are made up of great staff who can offer sound advice and a friendly support service.
Josh Burbidge has worked in a number of commercial areas of Archwood over the past 10 years. Josh has taken on responsibility for the Atkinson & Kirby brand and is investing in key people, new products and strengthening the brand offer.
The final member of the team is Andy Simms. Andy has worked in finance across a number of different sectors, and has been with the Archwood Group for a number of years. Andy has now stepped up to the role of Financial Director, completing the senior leadership team.
Speaking of the new appointments, Tony Miles, said: “The teams combined knowledge and experience in the timber industry will be highly beneficial in strengthening our position in the market.
Over the years, the Archwood Group has been fortunate enough to engage with a wide range of merchants, from large buying groups to independent family owned businesses. This knowledge and our combined experience has helped us formulate a clear strategy which puts the merchant customer at the forefront of our future business model”
Our principles are simple. We will not sell products direct to the public or our ‘customer’s customer’. We will always endeavor to add value through great products, delivered at the most competitive prices in order to allow our customer to manage their own margins and profitability. Our customers will always be allowed to choose whatever brand or product suits their business. Our role is to engage with our customers, help whenever we are invited to and never to dictate.
In 2018 Richard Burbidge will be launching a new range of products and services that will broaden the offering for our customers. The extensive manufacturing facilities and services within the Archwood Group will be further utilised to provide new and tailored timber products to align more closely with an individual merchant’s requirements.
Since Tony’s appointment, the Archwood Group has made a conscious effort to listen to its merchant customers and act on the feedback it has received. The new strategy places merchants at the forefront of the business, with new processes in place to ensure an improved service, and increased range of products moving forward.
With the team fully committed to executing this new strategy, merchants can expect to reap the rewards and benefits moving forward.
The Archwood Group has announced the appointment of Tony Miles as the company's new Chief Executive, with effect from February 1st 2017.

Archwood Group Executive Chairman, Marcus Moir, said: “We are delighted to have attracted someone with Tony's outstanding qualities as our next CEO. His depth and breadth of industry experience and many years of commercial and business leadership will play a vital part in forging the next chapter in our growth and development.”
Tony Miles commented: “I was drawn to Archwood initially because of the first class and long standing reputation of its brands in the timber products market. This is a great opportunity to lead the business and further develop both the people and the company’s portfolio of products and brands in the coming years".

Installation Issues with a Newel Post?
We recognise that sometimes the existing installation can have problems. One common problem is that the newel base is not correctly finished. It can either have been cut too short, or be damaged toward the top.
The Utility Newel range are over-sized newel tops that can be used to restore correct full newel dimensions. They are simply fitted like a normal newel, and trimmed to size.
The newel posts are available in plain or stop chamfered styles with a height up to 1000mm. Pine and White oak options are available. Fitting instructions for Newel posts from the Richard Burbidge range can be found here.
The new range is inspired by current trends with ten contemporary colours, as well as oiled, brushed and lacquered finishes, designed specifically to combine durability and functionality to suit a wide range of tastes and applications.
Paul Lerigo, Marketing Director for Atkinson & Kirby said: “The new range is quick and simple to navigate. The benefits include single block thickness, which allows for mix and match of colours if desired and it is suitable for use with underfloor heating, making it a popular option for residential and commercial applications alike.”
A range of high quality profile trims and accessories are also available to make installation as quick and simple as possible, as well as ensuring that the flooring project is finished to the highest possible standards.
Atkinson & Kirby is the leading name in flooring industry, and is also part of the Archwood Group, which includes sister brands, Richard Burbidge and Masons Timber Products, so Atkinson & Kirby’s customers can benefit from exciting cross brand opportunities.

“Our off-the-shelf availability makes us ideal for projects such as this, as we’re able to supply a quality product, on a quick turnaround at a competitive price.”
Talking about the project, Sarah Beeny said: “We’ve put in parquet flooring throughout our kitchen, hall and basement. I’m a huge parquet fan; it’s a fantastic all rounder, so hard wearing and lasts almost forever! It will get scratches and scrapes, but these add to a lovely ageing patina. I like the fact that it is so forgiving when you drop something on it and that it’s much cosier to walk on than cold stone or tiles. In the kitchen, we’ve it’s treated properly to avoid any water damage from spillages.”

The group’s primary manufacturing site remains at Chirk where, over the past three years, it has made significant investment in its production capability with the creation of 115 new jobs.
“This is the next phase in the development of Archwood, as a £50m leader in the timber home improvement market,” said Archwood’s group chief executive Steve Underhill. “We have defined brands and product ranges serving clear market sectors, and now, by consolidating into group centres, we can create operating efficiencies and improved customer benefits.
